This walrus was captured by harpooner Henry Kiddie of the whaling ship "Esquimaux", after shooting her mother. She was the last of five calves taken alive on the ship's 1899 voyage, and the last surviving.
It was revealed on July 16th, 1899 that she had been named after the original Jessie who had passed five days prior.
Ship owner Andrew Barclay Walker said of Jessie II in his diary; "Jessie 2nd, the remaining walrus, had a swim to-day. She is very tame, and follows you in the water as you walk along the ice. She comes up on the ice when you call her".
It is not known whether Jessie II died aboard the ship or was taken alive to Dundee, Scotland, as the ship owner had hoped to accomplish.
