I have very little information on the existence of this animal. He was only mentioned twice in 1952 and 1953, alongside a female imported in 1949 as part of an unspecified "large group", which was the first herd of walruses housed at Hagenbeck for nearly 10 years. I therefore make the relatively safe assumption that this male is also from that 1949 import. Furthermore, another male named Raudi (who was also from the 1949 herd) was transferred to the park specifically on November 9th, so I again make the assumption that the entire herd, including this animal, arrived together on that date. Bear in mind that any or all of these assumptions may be incorrect.

I have no information whatsoever on this animal's date of death. I only know that he was last mentioned by name in a 1953 publication, where he was labeled in a picture -- making the assumption that the image would not have been included if he had passed away, I can at least be relatively certain that he was still alive and present at the park as of late 1952. Everything beyond that point is less certain -- although by 1962 the bull Raudi was being referenced as the only walrus at Hagenbeck, so by that point Nickelmann had certainly died or was otherwise no longer present at the park.
