Diet

"The animals were fed on formula 3 times a day (at 09.30, 12.30 and 15.45 hours). The formula consisted of the following ingredients: 13 l water, 270 g butter, 540 g oatmeal, 630 g soya flour (Nutrilonsoja®), 900 g milk powder (Multimilk®), and 8 g marine mammal vitamins (Seavit®). The formula was stirred and boiled, then cooled to below 37°C."

Notes and Information

This walrus was estimated to have been born in May or June of 1992, and died at some point during or after 1994 from a tooth infection.

He had been diagnosed with Addison's disease, which reduced his growth hormone production.
